Why a combined Christmas menu fails
A single “holiday box” sounds simple until the first week of December is already full of Christmas orders and Hanukkah starts on the 4th. Customers who need something for the first night cannot wait for a December 20 cookie pickup. A separate preorder sale lets you close Hanukkah when that menu is full, even if Christmas boxes are still open.
Menu ideas
Sell what you can legally make and what you have practiced. Frying in a home cottage kitchen is not allowed everywhere.
- Sufganiyot-style or jelly-filled treats, only if your cottage rules allow that method and you have a tested batch size.
- A cookie or dessert box labeled for Hanukkah gifting, with its own quantity limit.
- A smaller box aimed at the first or last night, so you are not promising eight nights of fresh frying.
- Dairy and pareve called out on the item when your customers need that distinction. Do not hide it in a caption.
- Skip a fully custom “family order” unless you quote it outside this menu.
Dates to plan around
- 2026: Hanukkah is December 4-12. Open preorders in mid-November and aim pickup at the start of the festival, not only at the end.
- 2027: Hanukkah begins at sundown December 24. That is the same week as Christmas. Split oven days in writing before you open either menu.
- Re-check the Hebrew calendar each year before you publish open and close times. Do not copy last year’s pickup week.

Should Hanukkah share the Christmas cookie menu?⌄
You can announce both seasons in the same post. Take the orders on separate menus with separate quantity limits and separate close dates. In 2027 the holidays overlap, and one shared quantity limit will favor whichever sells faster.
When should Hanukkah preorders open?⌄
About two to three weeks before the first night you are willing to deliver. For a December 4 start in 2026, mid-November is the practical open. Close several days before bake day so shopping is not happening the night before.
